Frappato is a black grape variety native to the south-eastern part of Sicily and owes its name to a particular characteristic that makes it stand out among Sicilian red wines: it is ‘fruity’, an adjective that perfectly describes the wine made from this grape variety. The bunches are winged and compact, medium-sized and pyramid-shaped. The grapes are blue, irregular, with a thick skin.
Made into a varietal wine, Frappato has a light but bright ruby red colour. Frappato wines are moderately full-bodied, fresh and smooth on the palate, with distinct fruity and floral hints of strawberries and violets.
